Wells and Water Pumps for the Busia District

Country: Uganda | Focus: Water | Goal:  $25,000

Reduce water-borne diseases and make water more accessible in the Busia District of Uganda.

Program Goal:  The Busia Area Communities Federation will drill two boreholes, and fit and install hand pumps near the Buhasaba, Buyengo and Buhenye communities in the sub counties of Buhehe, Dabani and Lumino respectively. The wells will provide improved access to safe water for all communities.

Expected Results:  The program will provide improved access to safe water and reduce the risk of water-borne diseases like Typhoid and Diarrhea. With the addition of the wells, walking distances to safe water will be reduced to a maximum of 1.5 km. The program also offers the opportunity for increased income, with more water for crops and less travel time to and from the water sources. The program will impact over 600 individuals in the communities.
